Jazz'n'Gas was born when three novice level musicians Panu, Lumppa and Marcus decided to widen their musical abilities beyond straight rock. Especially Lumppa was tired to play just eight notes in rock bands. At that time, there was more will than ability and the first attempts to play fusion jazz vere quite homemade. Finally, after years of practicing we learned to play odd-time signatures smoothly enough. We started composing. Some evergreens were born, for example Ball and Chain, I lost My Seven, Par Five, Hypnotic Fart, Hypothetic Fart are sill alive after a decade!

The band was formed in the middle of the 1990's. In the beginning of the 2000's, activity was decreasing because everybody had more important things to do (how is it possible?). Here are the last recordings of the old Jazz'n'Gas era: Pick Up The Pieces (composed by Average White Band) and Pill Time (composed by Jazz'n'Gas).

Few Years Later...

December 2004 - Panu moved his Pulu Studio to Vallila, Helsinki. One day Lumppa came to visit the studio building project. Panu served Lumppa coffee that was made through electric connections cover of the ceiling light! Somehow they began to talk about Jazz'n'Gas. After a few weeks Lumppa came to studio to have a little jam session with Panu and Julli (new drummer of Avaruusankat). One could notice a tiny smile at Panu's face when he proposed that they would try to play a song called I Lost My Seven. Julli had never played a single odd-time song before... He failed ;-).

Jazz'n'Gas is back! Now we play live gigs and we have got VERY positive feedback of our skills and songs. Now Lumppa has joined Avaruusankat, too. Jazz'n'Gas and Avaruusankat have the same members. Quite funny to claim that three guys form two bands...

In the begin of 2008 Lumppa moved away for few hundred kilometers. For now, the distance has silenced the band.

In April 2009 Jazz'n'Gas broke the silence with a gig in On The Rocks, Helsinki. Odd time signatures are still in memory and we have a feeling and something special is coming.

Jazz 'n' Gas syntyi, kun aloittelevat muusikot Panu, Lumppa ja Marcus päättivät laajentaa osaamistaan rockin ulkopuolelle. Pääsykäyksen antoi Lumppa, joka oli kyllästynyt soittamaan bassolla kahdeksasosia ja pelkkää tasapaksua pohjamattoa. Halua oli enemmän kuin taitoa, joten ensimmäiset progeiluviritelmät olivat varsin kotikutoista (kaikki soittivat omassa tahtilajissa ja tempoissa). Sinnikkäällä treenaamisella bändin jäsenet oppivat kuin oppivatkin laskemaan yli neljän ja näin voitiin siirtyä biisien säveltämiseen. Syntyi ikimuistoisia, vihreästi loistaneita kappaleita, jotka ovat nykyisen Jazz 'n' Gas yhtyeen ohjelmiston perusta: Ball and Chain, I lost My Seven, Par Five, Hypnotic Fart, Hypotetic Fart jne.

Alkutahdit bändi otti 90-puolivälissä. Bändi pysyi projektina 2000-luvun alkuun, kunnes toiminta jäi vähitellen muiden kiireiden ja intressien jalkoihin. Tässä pari biisiä historiallisilta ajoilta: Pick Up The Pieces (Säv. Average White Band) ja Pill Time.

Panu ja Lumppa pitivät edelleen harvakseltaan yhteyksiä. Panun perustaessa Pulu Studiota Vallilaan saapui Lumppa katsastamaan rakennusvaihetta. Kenties tarkastuksen aikana nautitut lampunvarjostinkahvit olivat osasyyllisiä asiaan, mutta Jazz 'n' Gas oli taas puheen aiheena. Muutaman viikon päästä Lumppa saapui studiolle basson kanssa. Tarkoituksena oli soittaa pienet jamit Avaruusankkojen uuden rumpalin Jullin kanssa. Jälleen kerran pieni virne naamalla Panu totesi, että eiköhän kokeilla seuraavanlaista kappaletta (I Lost My Seven). Julli ryhtyi urhoollisesti työhön ja tikkasi tarkasti komppia tuntemattomaan biisiin. Eihän siitä tietenkään mitään tullut.

Jazz 'n' Gas on palannut ja uskaltaa mennä soittamaan julkisille paikoille kymmenen vuoden harjoittelun jälkeen! Nyt puolen vuoden uuden toiminnan aikana homma on nytkähtänyt niin paljon eteenpäin, että uskallamme puhua jo kokopitkästä albumista! Keikat ovat hyvää treeniä, tervetuloa katsomaan, miten yhteensoitto kehittyy koko ajan paremmaksi!

Vuoden 2008 alussa Lumppa muutti muutaman sadan kilometrin päähän. Välimatka on toistaikseksi hiljentänyt bändin.

Huhtikuussa 2009 Jazz'n'Gas rikkoi hiljaisuuden On The Rocksissa. Tahtilajit ovat edelleen hallussa ja jäi sellainen fiilis, että jotain erityistä on tulossa lähitulevaisuudessa.
